Learning my craft

Shelee Carruthers in Queensland, Australia developed a new technique just over a year ago which took the fluid art world by storm. For a relatively small fee anyone could sign up for her E course and learn the secrets behind her magical creations. I did ….. but things weren’t an immediate success….here’s my story

This is a story about a new Sheleeart girl

Which I’d like to share if you’re not in a whirl

As each day dawns and wearing a smile

I attempt once again the Sheleeart style

I begin with vigour and hope and belief

But as the day goes on it all comes to grief

Canvases are scraped one after the other

The bins full of paint and the table is smothered

The pillow’s too thick or the paint’s too thin

There’s certainly no trace of a butterfly wing

My blow is all wrong and the paint is stuck

I think its incompetence not just bad luck

The lacing and veining have gone on vacation

It’s a constant source of extreme frustration

Perhaps they’ll come back and pop in for a while?

To add some dimension to this four-inch tile

All optimism defeated I utter a groan

As I look around at the disaster zone

Another day wasted and not a single success

As I heave a deep sigh and start tackling the mess

But tomorrow ill be over my exasperation

And attempt once more a Sheleeart creation

However, I’m now desperate to find THE way

Because here in the studio it’s like Groundhog Day

There’s something quite magical about this technique

The paint glides and collides in a way that’s unique

I am totally beguiled by the shimmer and the sheen

And to master the art has become my dream

Is it a fantasy, a sham or a clever illusion?

Or am I simply in a state of delusion?

I must locate and conquer this elusive thing

To lift my soul and make my heart sing

But please when oh when will the magic unfold?

I can’t wait forever as I’m already quite old!
