Microscopic Work

Microscopic Work

These six images translate distinct types of breast cancer into abstracted, microscopic-inspired compositions. Drawing from histological imagery, each painting magnifies cellular structures, patterns, and disruptions that are normally unseen, transforming medical reality into visual language. Colour, flow, and form are used deliberately to echo proliferation, mutation, containment, and invasion—capturing both the beauty and the threat within these cellular worlds.

This collection is also intrinsically linked to contemporary medical practice. The works were created specifically for the front cover of a major academic textbook on breast cancer by Professor Ian Ellis and Professor Emad Rakha, currently with the publisher and set to become a definitive global reference for clinicians and practitioners. Drawing directly from the same microscopic realities explored in the book, the artworks form a visual counterpart to scientific knowledge—bridging pathology and perception, and uniting art and medicine in a shared language of observation, precision, and human impact.
