Methuselah

£1,250.00

Methuselah is a bristlecone pine tree growing in the white mountains of Inyo County of Eastern California with the greatest confirmed age in the world - a staggering 4,845 years! It seemed appropriate to go large with this so it is a very sizeable canvas. I created this as a show piece for an exhibition where I wanted to portray strength, resilience and depth. The reds, golds, copper and burgundy meld together yet are delineated by the application of black and brown paint to indicate structure, texture and crevices. The paint is applied thickly providing a tangible depth disturbed only by the focal point of a sparkling crystal recess. The tree is finished in high gloss varnish contrasting sharply with the stark, matt white background.

Orientation to suit client requirements. Portrait or landscape in either direction.

122 x 61 x 3.5cm acrylic on canvas with varnish finish.
