The rich velvety colours of winter pansies come alive in this painting with the deep blues, violets and burgundies contrasting with splashes of pink, gold and brilliant magenta - it is a spirited and exuberant piece.

The horizontal central seam is predominantly an iridescent lilac blue with rich burgundy which gives way to the softer hues of gold, pink and lilac as the paint moves towards the frilled edges.
